Our main character John’s account of the many people places and things that occur are based on actual and factual events. This book I guarantee will not only touch your heart with many events but will make you laugh, cry, wonder and be mystified all at the same time. The reason for this book was very clear to John. In the twilight years of his life he wants to give readers a true story of growing up in the 50s, and 60s then leaving coming back after the Vietnam War and going on. In closing this book is a keeper which one can go back and say “So that’s how Bridgeport was”. It’s a book about people and the ideals and humility of many. As time goes on I can truly say I’ve lived along this river of life with Jesus as my Captain and I can say “God’s Not Done With Me Yet”

John was born October 23,1946 in the Hollow of Bridgeport , Ct. John loved to sing and have fun like the other Italian Americans there. When John turned twelve they moved to the North End of Bridgeport along with his brother and two sisters. Then along came two more brothers born in the North End. Being the second oldest of six children hindered his singing career as money was tight. After high school John joined the Navy as that was the best direction for him at that time. John spent four years in the Navy, and that’s what this story and book is about.
As a young Naval Sailor, the author tells his story from the beginning of entering the Navy to the separation from active duty. Like most Americans back in 1964, I had known very little about Vietnam. This short synopsis is an attempt to fill in some of those details, from the induction into the Navy through the varied duty stations before Vietnam, during Vietnam and after. The details are a bit sketchy now, almost 53 years later. But then, we never could decide even on simple things like how to spell the name, could we? Variously written as, Da Nang, and Danang, The latter spelling for this story is the one used, since that was the name used by most of men over in "Danang" at that time.
You will travel with John through Navy boot camp at the tender age of eighteen through his many experiences as he travels “ Road To Vietnam, Before And After, My Story” . This is a compelling true story of how it was and the facts seen through the eyes of John. There are many highlights of good times on leave and liberty. Then there are grief filled hours and days as his father dies while he is in Nam and his return to Vietnam.
This gripping bio is an easy read because you will not want to put it down from beginning to end. Just like that old movie, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, well they are all part of his story.
